Viana do Castelo
The port of Viana do Castelo is located in the northwest of Portugal on the Atlantic coast near the estuary of the River Lima.
The Commercial Port, on the south, has the capacity to receive more than 900,000 tons of cargo each year, involving vessels with draft up to 8 meters and length up to 180 meters. It is open to navigation 24 hours a day 365 days a year. It is very quiet and protected by a channel of 2 km that makes maneuvering and access relatively easy. This is a modern port, fully-equipped moving bulk (cement, china clay, fertilizers and woodchip), liquid bulk (asphalt) and general cargo (wood in logs and pallets, aluminum, kraft paper, steel, granite etc. ...), and roll-on/roll-off cargo. The port is served by national road network being at the final stage of the project linking the port to the network of motorways and national rail network - online Minho. The fishing port is located on the north bank of river Lima, close to the mouth, and is based on a robust fleet of historic traditions in the city, feeding a daily transit with economic and social role in the urban fabric. Adjacent to the fishing port are the shipyard in Viana do Castelo, founded in 1944 with a good international reputation in the repair and especially in the construction of chemical tankers, oil tankers, container ships, general cargo and warships. This is a modern complex, with a workforce of highly skilled and competitive. Still on the north, near the metal bridge is the marina. The port of Viana do Castelo has enormous potential for boating, which is increasingly seen from the growth rate of this type of navigation in recent years. You are in the design stage conversion of old commercial dock, to Ocean Marina with capacity for vessels exceeding 20 meters in length and up to 4 meters draft. |
